I find it facinating that these ancient civilations were able to building and rebuild on the same site, and each building was more extreme than the one prior. They reused materials. These ziggerats were used as political buildings, and were the heart of the city, just the same why we have constructed every town hall across america in the 1900's. They have the same meaning today as with our government buildings as they did in 3200 BC. Justice, Power, Wealth, and a civilized unity of its people.
